Filmmakers Europe and Spotlight, in collaboration with the International Casting Directors Association (ICDA) and the European Film Academy, have announced an exclusive screening of The Substance during the Berlinale on February 14, 2025. This event is a significant moment for the casting industry, as it coincides with the introduction of the new European Casting Director Award by the European Film Academy and the announcement of their partnership with ICDA, highlighting the essential role of casting in shaping cinematic storytelling.

Before the screening, a panel discussion will take place featuring Coralie Fargeat and other key industry figures, offering insight into the film’s themes and creative process. The event serves not only as a celebration of casting but also as a platform for discussing the film’s bold exploration of misogyny and the objectification of bodies—topics that have long permeated the industry but are rarely examined with such unflinching intensity.

The Substance, starring Demi Moore, has already made waves in the awards circuit, earning five Oscar nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director. The film is being lauded for its visceral storytelling, subversive social commentary, and the uncompromising vision of its director.

Filmmakers Europe members in Germany will be able to register for the screening with seats allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. The registration is starting February 7, 2025, at 11:00 AM (CET). We believe the tickets will be gone in a very short time. Check the link HERE

For those unable to attend, the panel discussion will later be made available right here on the Filmmakers Europe's website, ensuring wider access to this cinematic conversation.
