Thomas Höppener graduated from the Amsterdam School of Drama and Kleinkunstacademie in 2011. He and fellow students started their own theater collective, DE HOLLANDERS. They produced new stage texts and musical theater together with well-known Dutch writers. Among others with Arnon Grunberg, Arthur Japin, Adriaan van Dis and Spinvis. He also played as an actor in several plays by directors such as Thibaud Delpeut, Marcus Azzini, Gerardjan Rijnders, Maren Bjørseth, Ada Ozdogan and Jan Hulst.

In Jan Hulst and Kasper Tarenskeen, however, he discovered his true theater friends. At Frascati and then at theater Oostpool, they built a large body of work with a contemporary distinctive style, including the plays, SCHEEPSHORECA, BUUT DE NADERENDE DOOD, LA PRETENZA, THE ILIAS, BABYCRAZY and KOMT GOED.

He also played multiple roles in JOARDYFILM's YouTube sketches and web series, from creators Jim Deddes and Jan Hulst.   

In 2019, Thomas performs a brilliant role in DE LIBI, written by Jeroen Scholten van Aschat and others. For this role, he wins a Gouden Kalf in the Best Male Supporting Role category.

In 2022, Thomas was nominated for a Gouden Kalf for best male lead in a series, for his fantastic role in RAMPVLUCHT; the Gouden Kalf-winning KRO-NCRV drama series produced by production house Big Blue. The series was written by Michael Leendertse and directed by Lourens Blok and Edson da Conceicao.
