A popular Russian, Ukraine-born, film and stage actor best known abroad for his leading roles in the films "Dushka" directed by Jos Stelling and "12" by Nikita Mikhalkov. 
 
In 1980, after completing his studies, Makovetskiy began working as an actor at the Vakhtangov Theater in Moscow. Since then, he has played more than 30 roles there and on other major stages.

His filmography includes more than 100 films and TV series, including many leading roles in very popular projects. This made him one of the most famous actors in Russia today.
