Lea Mergell was born in Saarbrücken and grew up in Erlangen, Singapore, and especially in Leipzig. She is the sister of three younger siblings. In Leipzig, she gained stage experience in independent theater groups and in the youth club of Schauspiel Leipzig, with which she was invited to the Theatertreffen der Jugend. She also shot small film projects with friends. After studying Cultural Studies in Leipzig, she studied acting at HMTM Hannover (graduation in 2025). Her class production "Das Feld" was awarded the Ensemble Prize at the Federal Competition for German-speaking acting students in 2023. During her studies, she made guest appearances, among others, at the Staatstheater Kassel and at the Staatstheater Braunschweig and participated in short films that were shown at international festivals. Since the 2025/26 season, she has been permanently engaged at the Schlosstheater Celle.

On June 8, 2024, the premiere of the short film "Vise din Trecut - A Portrait of My Grandmother" directed by Anna-Maria Caciauna and Carla Irma Boicul took place, featuring the role of Ana, exploring the youth in socialist Romania in the 1960s from the perspective of Ana and Eva-Maria. A year later, "TAO" by Giselle Herzog and Marten Schroeder was released.
