Ahmet İlker Ergin was born in Istanbul and is currently based in Düsseldorf. He studied Drama and Acting at Istanbul Aydın University, graduating in 2017. From an early stage, he gained extensive stage experience in professional theatres in both Turkey and Germany.

After completing his studies, Ergin moved to Berlin, where he lived and worked between 2017 and 2019. During this period, he developed the ensemble-based production “Pasaport or Passport or Reisepass”, drawing on personal experiences between Berlin and Istanbul. The production marked a key moment in his artistic trajectory and earned him a nomination for “Most Successful Emerging Artist” at the 22nd Afife Jale Theatre Awards.

His subsequent work includes performances in a wide range of theatrical formats, among them Maria Manolescu’s “Sado-Maso Blues Bar” and “Düşenler”, presented as part of the Yeni Metin Yeni Theatre Festival. In 2023, Ergin presented the solo performance “Avzer” by Şamil Yılmaz at the Maxim Gorki Theatre in Berlin, portraying Mustafa in a piece about self-discovery and political awakening during the Gezi protests.

In the 2024/25 season, Ergin took on two leading roles in German-language theatre: in the music theatre production “Die schöne Magelone” at FFT Düsseldorf and in Tim Crouch’s “The Author” at Theater Colonia in Cologne. Through these performances, he demonstrated a strong stage presence and linguistic confidence in German, further expanding his artistic practice within the German-speaking theatre landscape.

He is currently performing at Schauspiel Köln in “Vatermal”, based on the novel by Necati Öziri and directed by Bassam Ghazi. Ahmet İlker Ergin’s acting is characterised by physical intensity, autobiographical sensitivity and a sustained interest in social and political transformation. He approaches theatre as a space where personal experience, language and contemporary realities intersect.
